This month you have the opportunity to meet Robyn Rickit, GCOMM’s Administration/Purchasing assistant.
You have been with GCOMM for over a year now. How has it been so far?
Definitely busy! There’s so much to learn about GCOMM as a whole, but everyone is so helpful that it makes the integration into the GCOMM family an easy one. Truthfully, I can’t believe how fast the year has gone by. As the saying goes “time flies when you’re having fun”.
Tell me a little bit about your background. What did you do before GCOMM?
I worked in an autonomous role as an Office Manager for a Trophy Wholesaler in Brisbane for over two and a half years. I was responsible for all accounting and administrative duties as well as importing/exporting of stock internationally and domestically. In 2011 we moved to the Gold Coast from Redcliffe, but I commuted to Brisbane for a year before looking for work closer to home.
Why did you decide to move from New Zealand to Australia?
It was a major leap moving away from home and our families, but the numerous opportunities Australia had to offer for our children and their upbringing was paramount. The good thing is that New Zealand is only a three hour flight, so it’s not too far away.
What is the most enjoyable thing about your job?
Working closely with my colleagues and definitely having our share of funny moments. There’s never a dull moment in our little part of the office.
What are the challenges?
In the coming months, GCOMM will be introducing a new system which will be beneficial to our customers and also internally, so the integration of this system will no doubt be a challenge, which of course is the norm.
On a daily basis, the GCOMM team are always at hand to have an ad hoc “problem solving” session when I have any issues. We’re always there for one another.
How do you find a balance between a family of 5 children and full-time employment?
My partner and I definitely have to run a tight ship to keep everything running smoothly. Everybody helps out and they all know who’s doing what and by when. Overall I’m a very lucky mum, I love my babies wholeheartedly.
It helps a great deal that GCOMM is understanding of the pressures that come with parental responsibilities when a child is ill or attending important school events, it makes my role as a working parent less stressful.
Are there any hobbies you enjoy doing in your spare time, if your children allow you to do?
The hobby I have, I do with my girls – we play social netball once a week and we love it. It’s our own “girly” time. I also love to read, but I haven’t had a chance to pick up a book for a while now.
What are your plans for the future?
I am 100% content being a part of the GCOMM family and being able to do what I love in an environment where everyone gets on well and with the same goal in mind. That is very fulfilling.
I look forward to continue broadening my knowledge and experience to contribute to GCOMM’s ongoing success.♦ End
